Backyard Explorers invites young learners to step outside and discover the wonder of the natural world. Rooted in the Charlotte Mason approach to nature study, this class blends unstructured outdoor exploration with guided art, stories, games, and activities designed to build curiosity, confidence, and a lifelong love of learning through firsthand experience.

Why Nature Study Matters
Backyard Explorers follows a nature-based philosophy that values curiosity, observation, and exploration over worksheets or rote memorization. When children spend time in natural settings—whether observing a leaf change color, watching insects, or noticing the shape of a seedpod—they build habits of attention and connection with the world around them. This groundwork supports later scientific thinking and a deeper appreciation for the living world.

No prior academic skills are required—just curiosity and a willingness to explore.
Registration
​Priority registration for current Verve families opens soon! General registration will begin March 2nd, 2026. A registration fee of $50 per student secures your spot in the class for the semester. Charter funds may not be used for registration fees. Verve is a vendor with Lake View, Feather River, South Sutter, and Core Butte Charter Schools.
